Lessons

I'm an enthusiastic singing, pop piano and rudiments (RCM Basic through Advanced, CC Theory 1-3) teacher serving the eastern portion of Ottawa from my home near Blair Road. I bring my students nearly 20 years of solo, choral, recital, exam and competition experience.

Piano students must be at least 6 years old to begin, have a 15-minute attention span, and preferably read English. An assessment will be arranged prior to lesson commencement (group methods may be indicated for some children--check the Links section for details.) Adult beginners are welcome! I use the Piano Adventures method by Faber & Faber, and the Contemporary Idioms syllabus of Conservatory Canada starting in Level 2B or 3.

My students have been accepted as voice majors in music programs at Canterbury and de la Salle high schools in Ottawa, as well as at the following universities: Carleton, Concordia, Dalhousie, Queens, and University of Ottawa.

I teach all styles of Voice to ages 8 and up, and prefer students to have had one year on another instrument such as the piano, to help with music reading. The teaching terms are usually early September to early January, and mid January to early June, or students may start at their convenience. Parent sessions may be held to discuss exam, recital and/or audition requirements, and a year-end recital takes place at the end of the Spring session.

My method includes techniques to improve pitch, breath control and tone, the skills to safely warm up your voice, and handling sight singing and music theory. I am a tutor with the Canterbury vocal arts program.
