2011-2012 Voice Lesson Policies and Guidelines


Term 1:  Sixteen weeks Sept. 13, 2011 - Jan. 19, 2012 (Tuesdays to Thursdays) 
Term 2: Twenty weeks Jan. 24 - June 14, 2010 (Tuesdays to Thursdays)
No lessons Dec. 23 - Jan. 9, at concert time or during March Break (except make-ups). 

  1. Fees are payable Sept 5 and Jan 5 preferably by E-mail Money Transfer (amounts in brackets below). Monthly instalments if preferred are Sept 5., Oct. 5, Nov. 5, Dec. 5; and Jan. 5, Feb. 5, Mar. 5, Apr. 5, May 5. Monthly instalments that are not paid by E-mail Money Transfer are subject to a $3 charge per instalment. Otherwise the rates are unchanged from last year. The contract is for a minimum of 16 lessons per term. At least eight hours is strongly recommended for beginning students. 

2.     Annual (1st Term + 2nd Term) Rates as of Sept. 1, 2010

    1. One hour a week: $46 per lesson x 4 lessons = $184 per installment = $1656 ($736 + $920)
    2. 3/4 hour a week: $38 per lesson x 4 lessons = $152 per installment = $1368 ($608 + $760)
    3. 1/2 hour a week: $28 per lesson x 4 lessons = $112 per installment = $1008 ($448 + $560)

      4. NEW THIS FALL: Accompaniment rate (except for my studio recitals) $30 per hour or part hour. Exam marking/arranging rate: $10 per 15 minute segment to nearest quarter hour.

  1. Please agree on a time that will not conflict with other activities. Absences due to sports, school conflicts, weather or lateness on the student's part will not be made up. If you are absent due to illness or a legal holiday, the lesson shall be rescheduled ONCE.   If you are ill, please phone before 9:30 p.m. the day before, or you will forfeit the lesson.   Make-up lessons will only be held in the following weeks:  over Christmas vacation for Term 1, March Break and June 18-22 for Term 2.   A month's notice is needed to cease lessons, unless due to extended illness or at my discretion.  Extra lessons may be booked at additional cost. Only two lessons may be carried forward during the term. Lessons not used by the end of June cannot be carried forward into the next year. Refunds are not possible except for extended illness.
  2. Singing for a minimum 20-30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week is suggested. Please assess other activities to ensure you/your child can make this commitment. Missed lessons hinder progress: a student who hasn't practiced needs the lesson to re-inspire him/her, to help to correct and to avoid mistakes. Feel free to arrange to discuss your (child's) progress or practice habits with me at any time.
  3. Recital, exam and Kiwanis Festival opportunities are available as an enjoyable way to perform as well as develop stage deportment and experience before an audience. The teacher must agree on a student's readiness. Carol night is Fri. Dec 22. The spring recital is Fri. June 15, 2012.
  4. The teacher may loan music for educational purposes only. No public performance may be given where the accompanist uses photocopied music.
